My Publications

The Compass: Route to Academic English 1, which I co-authored in 2015, is my latest publication. The book is designed for tertiary level students studying academic English. It adopts a constructivist and learner-centred instruction by integrating the four skills - reading, writing, listening and speaking - using a thematic approach.

The Activist is my first teacher training book, published in May 2012. In the words of Dr. Deniz Kurtoğlu Eken, the Director of The School of Foreign Languages at Sabancı University:

"In this resource book, Burçin Hasanbaşoğlu offers a rich variety of practical teaching ideas in ELT in the areas of, icebreakers; vocabulary; listening and speaking; pronunciation; and reading and writing. The book is a useful compilation of popular tasks and activities based on the author's teaching and teacher training experiences, but also introduces creative adaptations of familiar ideas as well as novel teaching techniques and activities to enhance classroom practices."

Academic Survival Skills 1, which I co-authored in 2008, is my first publication.  I am proud to say that many institutions in Turkey, including METU, are currently using this coursebook.

“Everything flows, nothing stands still” said Heraclitus of Ephesus, the ancient Greek philosopher. Academic English Survival Skills 1 is living testimony to the permanence of change. Written mainly to help university students enhance their English level, this book seamlessly integrates the four skills of language and places extra emphasis on reading technique.
